Fun Craft Idea: Make Flip Flops With Flowers   by Jonathan Hostetler

If you’re the kind of person who loves spending time at the craft store, here’s a new project for you: make your own flip flops with flowers.

The process is pretty easy, actually. The first step is to shop around for a pair of sandals that has the color and style you prefer. Almost any style sandal will do, but the simple foam style sandals may work best in this situation. Next, swing by an arts and crafts store and get some artificial flowers and other accessories to put on the flip flops. You can use things like bows and ribbons, glitter, plastic jewels, etc.

Once you have all the supplies, simply glue the decorations onto the flip flop straps using a glue gun. Try not to use too much glue. Use just enough to keep the accessories attached. As soon as you put the glue on an accessory, attach it right away, and then press on it firmly with your thumb and fingers. It may take about 25 or 30 seconds till the accessory sticks to the sandal.

Attach the rest of the decorations using the same process of applying glue and pressing firmly. After you’re finished, let the glue dry out for a while. Then test its strength by gently pulling one of the accessories. If it falls off, you either didn’t use enough glue or you didn’t let it dry long enough. Reattach the piece and wait longer.

When all the flowers and accessories are glued on, and the glue is dry, go ahead and wear your new decorative flip flops!

Another way to make flip flops with flowers is to draw or paint flower designs onto the top of the sandals using a marker or paint. You may want to lightly pencil in the design you want, before drawing it on. And if you use paint, make sure you give it enough time to dry before wearing the sandals.

After you wear your new sandals for a while, your friends most likely will notice. They may even want you to make them a pair! If you like the project, you could make them for your friends. Or if you want to make a party out of it, invite some of your friends to have a sandal decorating party.

Since sandals are very inexpensive, typically less than five dollars per pair, it’s an affordable and fun activity for social events like birthday parties and celebrations. Be sure to plan ahead and get the shoe sizes of your guests before going out and buying a bunch of flip flops.

But if decorating isn’t your thing, you can easily find flowery flip flops at your local shoe store or clothing outlet. Whether you just wear them around the house or you wear them to social events, flip flops with flowers are a fun way to attract attention and start conversations.
